What are the Pedagogical Principles (defined in
the Learning Materials)?
1. Facilitating
deep knowledge through higher order thinking
2. Facilitating collaborative learning in which conversations are
important
3. Supporting students in
knowing how they learn best
4. Planning
learning that is problem-based, and situated in real life contexts
5. Is relevant to students, and connects to their
background knowledge
6. Supports
learning that is owned, controlled and managed by students themselves
7. Is socially supportive, engaging, and
values cultural knowledges
8. Is
supportive of the development of active citizenship, and strong group identity.
What do the
Pedagogocial Principles mean to you in common language?
The Pedagogocial
Principles to me mean. that as teachers the way we teach is our art. We must
contiually grow with our students as we strive to grow our capabilities and
minds. As professional educators of the 21st century our art has the power to
help students believe in themselves.
Consider
whether the Pedagogical Principles make sense to you in terms of your own
experience in learning that has a) been pedagogically sound, and b) been
pedagogically woeful?
a): The Pedagogical Principles are clear and cruial for a real teacher. In my own learner experiences learning to adopt a growth mindset from a teacher during my later years of high school enabled me to push myself constantly and helped me regulate my emotions during school. I wish to inspire growth mindsets to all as an educator.
b): I had a teacher for a
semester who didn't really want to be there and it was shown by only giving our
worksheets. Some worksheets would repeat and it made it impossible to fully
engage and motivate the class. I certainly didn't learn this way and I feel it
was pedagogically woeful. I will ensure my future students will have greater
opportunities for learning.
Can you
recognise these pedagogies in the experiences you have identified in the sound
category? Elaborate.
I feel confident
that for "(b)" the semester would've enhance learning for all if
there was more active learning through listening and through media. All
students are diverse and learn in multiple different ways and the pedagogy used
was poor.
Beyond this,
can you identify the links between Judy Willis' knowledge of the brain and
learning, Sir Ken Robinson's perspective on creativity, the needs of your
contemporary learners and these pedagogical principles?
My first link
with Judy Willis' knowledge of the brain and learning is the proven effects of
positive motivation. For part "a)" receving positive motavation from
a teacher enabled me to hold myself accountable for my actions and education.
This leads into the power of joyful learning, having that positive relationship
with my teacher made the learning enjoyable hence enhancing my capabilities as
a learner. Adopting a growth mindset
links in with Sir Ken perpective on creativity because as individuals we have
the power to manifest our futures and improve our outcomes using our own life
as resume. Our life expirence shape our character and are creativity is our
art.
Why is it
important to engage social interaction and prior knowledge, and plan for
individualised and socially supportive, valued learning?
It's important
because to be a good educator you need to be a real educator! Be as creative as
possbile! Ask for Help! Make connections that will improve your capabilties and
share your creavitveness with others! Most importantly love what you do, and
love what you teach.
Reflect on
your experiences of pedagogy as a learner. How many of these pedagogies are you
familiar with?
Working in
Secondary school for the 5 years I have been familiar with the Blooms Taxonomy
and it's framework but this is the first time I've done into pedagogy and I'm
really enjoying it.
