Presenting Learning:
Being able to present learning is a crucial capability for all educators of the 21st century. Teachers need to be creative when designing their pedagogy. Being creative can make the learning more fun, as fun learning builds high engagement and creates a positive learning environment for your students. This week we have explored ways to present learning.
PowerPoint is regarded as a presentation tool that supports
oral presentations. However, it is so much more. It is a platform that supports
the embedding of text, linking and interactivity, audio, video and images.
Therefore, it is really a very easy to use multimedia authoring tool and great
for making creative presentations for student learning.
I looked to explore options that I have not used before and I now have been using Powtoon, Powtoon is a free, web-based eTool that creates
animated presentations videos for personal, educational, or
business/professional use. PowToon is simple and great for booting creativeness
when generating presentations for learning.
Features include:
-
Recording voice-overs.
-
Adding videos.
-
Adding visuals/effects.
-
Adding Animations.
-
Select Timing.
-
Export and save in many different accessible
formats.
Powtoon like PowerPoint is a fun way educators and students
can build animated and creative presentations. Presentations are great way to
share information, learning with an audience and boost collaborative learning
when working in groups.
From a HPE perspective if I wanted my students to create an
Exercise program using Powtoon/or PowePoint. I can present learning criteria
using a presentation, students will also have access to the presentation on
both video and GIF formats. In doing so students can access assessment criteria
without solely relying on a paper, copy/written down form.
Below is an example of both video and GIF formats.
SAMR Model and Powtoon:
Substitution: Teachers can use Powtoon to create
presentations on new topics, skills and brain friendly activities. In a HPE a
students can use Powtoon to present their learning of new skills, as they can
upload photo/video evidence as well as audio/written evidence.
Presentations are important for student development and learning. How educators present their learning could be the difference with your future students being engaged/disengaged. Presentations are a brilliant creative based resource for teachers and students regardless of skill level.
Legal, Safe and Ethical Protocols:
Legal, safe and ethical protocols are essential when working
with ICT pedagogies. According to ACARA learners need to:
1. Recognize intellectual property
2. Apply digital information security practices
3. Apply personal security protocols
4. Identify the impacts of ICT in society
I will ensure my future students are aware of the legal,
safe and ethical protocols are when working with ICT.

Hi Justin,
ReplyDeleteIt is good to see that you have taken on feedback from last week's blogs and have included a good example of the SAMR model as well as the legal, safe and ethical protocols your students need to adhere to. I thought your Powtoon presentation was excellent and it was good to see your perspective on how you can present information to your PE class. Next time, you might want to further expand on your chosen presentation tool. For example you could talk about settings, privacy settings, customisation, if it is easy to use etc.

Hey Justin,
ReplyDeleteIt has been great to watch your growth in the your blogging skills and style. It is always great to see you take on the critiques from the previous blogs. All while further strengthening where you already excel. Your doing great.
I enjoy your presentation on how you can use Powtoon to present content in your lessons. you did a good job making the presentation, though I would recommend staying away from black text on some of those backgrounds.
Next time it would nice to see a break down of what the tool is capable of. But all in all I think you have done a good job.
