Presenting Learning

Presenting Learning: Being able to present learning is a crucial capability for all educators of the 21 st century. Teachers need to be creative when designing their pedagogy. Being creative can make the learning more fun, as fun learning builds high engagement and creates a positive learning environment for your students. This week we have explored ways to present learning. PowerPoint is regarded as a presentation tool that supports oral presentations. However, it is so much more. It is a platform that supports the embedding of text, linking and interactivity, audio, video and images. Therefore, it is really a very easy to use multimedia authoring tool and great for making creative presentations for student learning. I looked to explore options that I have not used before and I now have been using Powtoon, Powtoon is a free, web-based eTool that creates animated presentations videos for personal, educational, or business/professional use. PowToon is simple and great for boot...

Digital Media

This week, I have been studying digital media and its power to enhance teaching pedagogy. Digital media comes in various formats such as image, audio and video (Marryville, 2021) . Each type of media has a diverse characteristic that when implemented can enhance learning and cater for the more diverse learners in your classrooms (Relojo-Howell, 2020) . Students from this generation have been using digital technologies and digital media platforms since an early age resulting in tech savvy individuals (Molla, 2019) . Because of this, it is important to use their strengths in technology to your advantage as a teacher and implement digital learning into your classrooms. Here are some simple ways I can use digital media as a HPE teacher: Images for learning: By using imagery, students can get a visual representation of the skill before being bombarded with the many written steps required to perform the specific skill with correct technique. I would go that next step forward by i...

Websites - Reflection

Learning about web sites has been challenging, I am finding it to be not only important but also crucial for my pedagogy as a professional educators in the 21 st century. I spent a lot of time reading and scrolling through YouTube looking to improve my own website/bloggers page. I am trying to improve my capabilities in ICT as we progress. The biggest benefit I have found so far while journeying through websites was google blogger and Microsoft teams. Being able to connect and collaborate with your fellow students has been a blessing and has help me extremely. Being able to read and share thoughts in a team-learning environment has certainly boosted my learning, linking with Judy Willis' “knowledge of the brain and learning” (Willis, 2011). As for me it was positive motivation, which helped me progress when I was facing a barrier as a learner. I found it extremely fun to set up my blog page and to customise it to my liking. I found it challenging to use at first but after spe...

Introduction - Digital Pedagogies

Hello everyone my name is Justin Borland, I've been working as a youth worker/SSO at John Pirie Secondary School for the past 5 years and my goal is to become a secondary teacher.  ICT is forever changing and as professional teachers we need to constantly update our capabilities while adapting to these changes in order to broaden our ways of delivering content to our students. In doing so we will maximise engagement and enhance student learning.  Most students of the 21st century have been heavily involved with technologies since a very young age, being a professional teacher means being able to use these technologies to connect and deliver content. Teachers of the 21st century will need to become tech savvy and open minded to all the rapid changes they will occur at the start and throughout ones career.  I'm super keen on this unit as I've seen how effective teachers can be when using ICT capabilities. I feel confident that as students become more diverse in the wa...
